THE CANCER EXPRESS...NOT A FABULOUS JOURNY

'IRADA' is a movie which always remains an eyeopener to me.Before watching this movie I am completely unaware about this fact.The fact is 'reverse boring'.Not only I but also most of the people are unaware about this fact as this news is not covered by the some famous media due to some unknown reasons.

Reverse boring is a concept deals with the procedure disposing of polluted water,highly toxic chemicals and heavy metals into the ground by dealing a deep hole into the ground.This concept is now takes up by many industrialists instead of proper disposing of toxic effluents in open area.During this process many toxic element get mixed with fresh ground water.

The state which is more affected by reverse boring is Punjab.the worst affected is southwest Punjab's fertile Malwa belt,the area south of the river sutlej,comprising the districts of Mansa,Bathinda,Moga,Faridkot,Barnala,Sangrur and some parts of Ludhiana.Of the 2,462 samples of water collected from tube wells across the Punjab,1140 sample has tested positive for the presence of uranium and arsenic. Punjab is the only state where uranium is found in ground water and the level of uranium in the ground water is 50% over the WHO norms.

the effect can be seen in the high rise of the number of cancer patients in this region and the child born with abnormalities.The situation is so much pathetic that there is a train that connects Bathinda with Bikaner called 'Cancer Express' that only ferries a large number of cancer patients for treatment at a cancer hospital in Rajasthan.

A study revealed that pesticides in farming are the root cause of high cancer rates in the state.Environmentalists also blames that rampant use of pesticides, fertilizer as Punjab took the lead in the green revolution and become the country's No.1 state in the food grain production for the contaminated ground water.
